Using Technology for Learning
Technology is everywhere! Whether it’s at home, work or school it is completely intertwined in how we learn today. Many classrooms now make use of technology daily to aid learning. It’s important to be open to failures when using EdTech, but saying this, it’s positive outcomes usually outweigh the negatives. Through the use of technology in the classroom we are able to connect with students of all learning styles and it also opens doors for our students to collaborate with ease.
When we dive into the use of technology in the classroom, there are some important factors to take into consideration.
Teachers need to have some control over the whats, whens and wheres but it’s also important to remember that this is not always the case. Allowing our students to choose what they need in the moment to help them learn in the most efficient way possible should be an option in the classroom. We want to encourage our students to be totally consumed by the learning that’s taking place. To do this we need to hand over more control in order to get away from passive learning.
In order to make it work for all having an end goal is critical. When you start with the end goal in mind and work your way back through a lesson it allows you to see first hand how your students can make it to the end. When considering this it’s also a great time to take into account the processes that will be used, gauging how complex it could be. Sometimes keeping it simple is the best way to go. The fewer moving parts that are involved the less that can go wrong.
